What is a Pledge?

Definition

A pledge is a promise to give money. Pledges can be for one-time payments or as part of a recurring series. Pledges can simply be records of promises, or they can be a fully configured future payment to be executed upon the pledged date (in which case electronic payment information is collected at the time of the pledge creation.) Future donations can be applied to past pledges to show they have been fulfilled. Pledges must be associated with a donation fund and can optionally be associated with an appeal and/or campaign.

Examples

  • Single pledge of $50 to general fund
  • Recurring pledge of $50 per month to scholarship fund, paid by credit card
  • Single pledge, scheduled payment, $150 to Capital Campaign, Golf Tournament appeal
